Poem - Cast No Shadow
A cold memo, from chief I read,
My face turned blue, the note pricks me,
As contents ruptured, ulcers in deep,
Only pleasantries, though it did speak,
Of how dark soot will nourish the ground,
That strange fruit will bear from the trees,
Like heaven, though no virtues around,
Live presents; sent to hotels as treats,
So me and many others would leave,
Krampus leaves a surprise on the Eve,
Soldiers execute the hope of peace,
Satan guides, coming for souls to retrieve,
Now the town burns; homes now lit
And to the men, we shot all fit,
Women, seniors. Buried in pits,
And to the kids, Santa Claus is slit,
And looking at myself, it’s hard to admit,
As the flesh burns, the skeletons retain,
As flickers die, the reflections remain,
But I cast no shadow.
