Highlights of Halloweek at Victoria Park
A spotlight on this year’s halloween spirit week, events from each day and quotes from participants and directors of the event!
This year, October 28 to November 1st marked Victoria Park’s 2024 SLC x MEDLIFE Halloweek, a Halloween-themed spirit week celebrated by students of Victoria Park. Halloweek held numerous events to encourage school spirit in October’s most iconic celebration.
Organized by Medlife and the Student Leadership Council (SLC), Halloweek created school spirit through simple and engaging events for students to participate in, whilst giving out prizes to lucky winners and those who demonstrated their participation.
Each day of the week had multiple events for students to celebrate. Some, such as Dress Like Your Teacher and On Wednesdays We Wear Pink encouraged students to wear outfits corresponding to the day’s theme, while other events had students play games like Halloween Bingo and Teacher Scrabble.
Thursday, October 31st was the most iconic day of the spirit week. Students received treats from rooms across the school building and wore their Halloween costumes, with students who wore costumes having received extra treats. Friday held Victoria Park’s annual Halloween Dance after-school, where students partied, wore costumes and danced.
Many students believed that this event did an excellent job in both showcasing VP’s school spirit and creating an engaging event for students to have fun. Emily Dai, the president of Victoria Park’s Student Leadership Council, felt Halloweek highlighted Victoria Park students’ enthusiasm in school events.
“It was really rewarding to see all the participation in spirit week though! Seeing people come in their pajamas, wear the color pink and come to school dressed up in their best costumes really showed our school spirit!”
Not everybody was satisfied with the spirit week. Some students noted little participation in events such as pink shirt day, as well as limited knowledge of the events occuring on each day of the week.
Emily Dai noted the difficulty in organizing multiple events as a council and the effect it had on Halloweek.
“We wanted to provide students with a variety of events. However, due to having many events, it was difficult to organize and plan for each and everyone. We ended up putting a lot of focus on the Halloween dance and senior sunrise.”
Emily stressed the importance of student feedback in making next year’s Halloween week better for students.
“While Halloweek was really fun, we are taking feedback from students to make it better for next year.”
