SLC’s New Grade 10 Rep: Angela Du
Angela Du is our amazing new Grade 10 rep for the 2013/2014 school year here at VP. She is a bubbly, friendly, and hardworking person. Her favourite part about campaigning was meeting and speaking to new people. In fact, she feels that campaigning was not all about telling people to vote for her, it was about spreading the purpose of her platform and letting the students make the decision.
Everyone has different reasons and goals to become part of the SLC. When asked how she plans to improve the high school experience for Grade 10 students next year, she replied: “For Grade 10s, the most important aspect is bringing up the overall school spirit, and that can be achieved by increasing the bond between students and especially the difference between [the] IB and [Academic] students.”
There are many things that Angela will bring for next year. This includes a book fundraiser where students could trade old books for new ones, a music banquet to celebrate the student accomplishments and achievements in music, and a mentor system in which older students will help Grade 10 students with academics and other areas of school.
Angela believes that the purpose of the SLC is not about telling students what to do, but to “elect a group of role model students with the voice of the whole student body, and [to] help direct the students in the right direction.”
Bur Angela could not have done this electoral process by herself. “Without the support of my parents, my friends, and my teachers, it would have been impossible to achieve what I’ve achieved today. They encouraged me and gave me confidence when I decided to apply for this position. I want to give a special thanks to Minsor, Sarah, and Alissa for helping with the posters, as well as Ms. Chang for helping me with the recommendation letter.”
Our new Grade 10 rep is extremely excited for the new school year and especially communicating with her peers. A quote that she wishes to share is: “Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before” (E.A.P.). So let’s congratulate Angela and hope that she brings the best to the Grade 10 students!
