Beyond the façade of the skin

That defines man by his difference

And stains the human heart with hatred

Is the silver thread of existence

A rawness that weaves humanity

Into a common fabric.

I am a human being! it bellows

I too love and hope and yearn

And I cry and fear and pain

I am a human being!

Let not my uniqueness

Make you regard me in Otherness

And strip me of the rights

that are mine because I Am

Outside of the glass bubble

That imprisons with

Insanity, suffering, and despair,

Freedom skips, dances and sings

She beckons to me, smiling

Voice echoing and resonating

With every fibre of my being

And so I fight, protest and plead

Until the glass walls are broken

For I am entitled to respect and freedom

By the fact that I am human
